Kobe Kyukatsu: A Culinary Fusion of Korean and Japanese Flavors

What I ordered: - Beef gyukatsu set Kobe Gyukatsu is a fusion of Korean and Japanese cooking. Their most popular dish is the grill-yourself beef gyukatsu set which utilizes prime beef. The beef was tender and the slight katsu crust provides texture. My biggest complaint is that I wish the crust was a bit thicker, stuck to the beef better, and had more of a crunch. The accompanied banchan and cabbage salad adds freshness and acidity to the overall meal. Grilling on the stone slab is whimsical and allows personalized doneness of meat for each individual which I appreciate.

Such as cheese fried pork cutlet, soba noodles, omelette rice, ramen As for grilled meat, I plan to try grilled beef tongue next time. It will taste good too

First timer! Came in on a Sunday afternoon. The server mentioned we had just beat the lunch rush. There was no wait and we found parking quickly (however, it is a very small lot. Not sure how they manage when it's busy). Restaurant is very clean. Our server was incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Food came out rather quickly. Presentation of all dishes were beautiful. Really enjoyed the beef gyukatsu.

Came around 4/5pm on a weekend and there was no wait thankfully. Service was quick and easy. Tried both their spicy katsu and beef gyukatsu and both were so delicious and filling! I love all the sides it came with and happy that the server can accommodate to my request as well!

When I see the name Kobe Gyukatsu I am under the impression that it is a Japanese restaurant. Even the décor had backdrops of Japan's streets. Interestingly enough, this restaurant is Korean operated. Anyways it was a cold rainy day when I met my colleague friend here for lunch. This restaurant has its' own private lot with a decent amount of parking spots. We came after peak lunch hours so it wasn't too busy at all. We shared a Beef Gyukatsu Set ($29.95) and a Cream Curry Udon ($17.95) to share. The lady who worked here was really nice, and she brought us extra plates and bowls as well as communal chopsticks and spoon to facilitate the sharing. The beef gyukatsu set came with rice, miso soup, and a salad. There was 2 dipping sauces for the meat. The beef gyukatsu was breaded and you get to cook it tableside, which could be fun. However the taste was not too satisfying. The batter made it taste a bit oily. I think I prefer just going out to get grilled meat at a grilled meat restaurant. The cream curry udon was exactly what I needed for the cold rainy day. It was so creamy and soothing. The curry wasn't too overpowering. There was meat and veggies in this soup. I really enjoyed it. My friend said she also enjoyed eating the curry with the rice. Definitely fun to try. If I was eating alone, I would lean towards the cream curry udon more than the beef gyukatsu. If I wanted good beef, I think I rather go to a Korean or Japanese barbecue concept for better quality.

I loved this place so much. Everything I tried was soo delicious. I asked the staff on what they recommended and the creamy curry udon! The udon tasted good. I tend to think most curry udon tastes the same, but I really enjoyed how creamy and light it was. Personally, I liked mixing the cream into the curry mix below. It gave rich taste to the sauce. As for my friend he ordered the Katsu and he also enjoyed it as well. It wasn't too overly dry or overcooked. Overall, great experience and good food!

Kobe Gyukatsu is a great place to get your Japanese-Korean fusion food fix in Buena Park. Food: 4/5 + Chicken Cutlet Combo + Cream Curry Udon The cream curry udon is one of my absolute favorites to get whenever I visit and it comes piping hot in very big portions. (I think personally you can share it among 2-3 people if you get 1 more dish.) The curry is just divine underneath topped with tender beef chunks; although I would say it's very satisfying at the start to mix the cream and curry together for the perfect combination. My only gripe about this dish is I feel like it's severely lacking in appropriate amount of udon noodle. Most of the time, we'll just have curry left and to be honest it's too rich to eat it alone and better paired with some starches like rice or noodle. I also tried the Chicken Cutlet combo this time which was decent, although since I've been to Tokyo twice this year, I don't think the quality or freshness compares. That being said, the panko covering offers a nice crunchy texture and the meat is still pretty juicy. I think the sides could have been more fresh. Service: 5/5 At busy hours, parking here can be a struggle. It's a very small lot located next to a gas station. However on a week day around 5pm we didn't have any issues with finding parking. (I also came here on a Saturday lunch and had a completely different experience.) I recommend carpooling if you are planning on visiting here with friends due to the limited capacity for parking. Tables are clean and establishment is quiet save for other parties having conversation. In addition, service is kind and receptive.

It's usually so hard to eat here because the parking lot is tiny. But I went today during a weekday lunch, and it was practically empty. The restaurant is unassuming, essentially a shack next to a gas station. You'd probably drive right past it if you weren't looking for it. I usually get the premium gyukatsu (which is delicious), but I tried getting the normal beef gyukatsu to see what the difference is. The difference is exponential - I wish I just paid the extra money to get the premium one. The beef gyukatsu is expensive no matter what, so I feel like if you're going to get it, you might as well shell out the extra $15 to get the premium one. The regular is still enjoyable and comes as a whole lunch set. You get rice, slaw, miso soup, and dipping sauces. It's just kinda pricey for what it is. I liked the onion rings. The shell has a slight crisp to it and gives way to a chewy texture inside. It's also surprisingly light. The dipping sauces are good as well. The cream curry udon was ok.

Kobe Gyukatsu is a mix of Japanese Korean style food, and it's been so delicious every time I've visited! My boyfriend and I were seated right away and immediately brought menus. I ordered the cream curry udon and my boyfriend ordered the gyoza and curry chicken katsu. The food came out within 15 minutes, and it was piping hot! My curry udon stayed hot for the entire duration of my meal (not warm, HOT! It was still steaming by the time I was done with it!) and it was phenomenal. There are large chunks of beef and a good serving of noodles and veggies. It's a very filling dish. The service was really good. We never had to ask for water refills or anything, they were super on top of it. It wasn't super busy when we went, but still it was very appreciated. The music wasn't too loud so it was a nice environment to chat in or catch up with someone in. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a warm meal without breaking the bank. The food quality for the price is really good! I look forward to coming back again.
